- String Ensemble disambiguation:
- The string ensemble class is a requirement for all Themes string students for strictly educational purposes, training and recital performance.
- The Themes Chamber Strings is the string part of the Themes Chamber Orchestra and is an audition only membership open to anyone who meets the audition requirements in and out of the Themes Music School absolutely free of tuition. Performances, Recitals, Tours, Recording sessions both video and audio, public performances, festivals, and street performances are all a possibility. Working with other established musicians, being on TV and Radio and the internet are a part of being in this ensemble.
- Requirements for Potential members
- For Graded year 2 (ABRSM grade 3 and higher) or equivalent musicians on Viola, Violin, Cello
- Therefore, a member must:
- Have their own instrument and equipment and promise to upkeep the instrument in excellent playing condition.
- Have performance experience.
- Be willing to be available in a professional manner for the activities described above. Absence from more than 2 performances and activities per year results in a dismissal from the ensemble. A former member can be readmitted only after a year’s sabbatical with a successful re-audition.
- The Themes Chamber Strings will not participate in distasteful events or in any event that would be inappropriate for young members. Please be advised that this ensemble is not a “Christian Ensemble” although much religious music will be performed as well as tours and visits to churches, secular music will also be performed including classical, jazz, pop, rock, soca, calypso etc. as well as attending secular activities. The church visits would be based on non-denominational ideals so any church of any denomination can be visited whether Saturdays or Sundays. If a potential member is sensitive to being in the worship experiences of differing denominations please strongly consider to not audition as no exceptions would be made for any member.
- Therefore, a member must:
- An audition is required to be a member of this Ensemble. Please bring your instrument, tuner, and rosin. Audition requirements are as follows:
- Play a classical piece from memory or sheet music at a comfortable performance level. (ABRSM/TRINITY grade 3 level or higher required, the greater level of the piece and greater level of execution will create a better opportunity for a higher seat, a simpler piece than grade 3 level will disqualify the auditioned from obtaining a seat).
- Musicality and technique are what is important here. Beautiful phrasing, good bow control, vibrato ability etc.
- Play a memorized folk song, church song, or pop song learned from sheet music or by ear.
- Play 2 scales and 2 arpeggios in any major or harmonic minor key up to 4 sharps and 4 flats requested by the examiner.
- Play back by ear a 2 bar melody played twice by the examiner (starting note and time signature will be given)
- Sight read 3 sheet music examples with correct notes, dynamics, articulation, and bowing

- The Themes String Quartet is a part of the Themes Chamber Strings comprised of the most elite members of the Themes Chamber Strings 1st chair violin, 1st chair 2nd violin, 1st chair 3rd violin/Viola, 1st chair cello. The most advanced, experienced, dedicated, and mature members of the Themes Chamber Strings will be invited to be the 1st chairs and therefore part of this 4 person opportunity. Members of this elite Themes String Quartet group will change based on the best members of the Themes Chamber Strings; no seat is permanent. The Themes String Quartet will be the face of the Themes Chamber Strings, therefore in addition to the activities of the Themes Chamber Strings the Themes String Quartet will be personally promoted. Members will be prominent on audio CD’s and Videos. Members will have their personal pictures on the webpage representing the group with their personal bios or CV. They will also receive monetary compensation for certain promotional or booked activities.
